Preludio - Performed by Edward Burns

Edward Burns, a graduate with honors from Marylhurst University has a Bachelor of Music Degree in Guitar Performance and an extensive musical background that includes over 20 years of performing and teaching professionally. His refined teaching methods, unlimited patience and easy going personality all contribute to enjoyable and rewarding guitar instruction.

Welcome fellow guitar lover! I have a passion for helping students discover their inner musician. It's so rewarding for me to watch a student progress through my guided and structured lessons. To see them smile from the satisfaction of their accomplishments. My lessons are always fun and informative. I really enjoy getting to know each student and developing a friendship and working relationship.

I teach children and adults of all ability levels. Typically, lessons start with simple left & right hand exercises that develop independent finger control, strength and coordination. Later graduating into complete scales and arpeggios. Learning to tune the guitar is an ongoing study in ear training. Classical, Rock, Blues, and Folk. I enjoy teaching all styles.

Students receive a complete music education that includes reading music, rhythms, music theory, the benefits of proper technique, and the development of musical interpretation.
After the student acquires a repertory, they have the option of recording their own CD in my studio.

Student Recitals

Students have the option of participating in performance recitals. It's an opportunity to celebrate their accomplishments with the guitar and share their music. It's also a good opportunity for Parents to get photos and videos of their children's performances. I believe that a students participation in performance recitals helps teach important life development skills such as:

*Building self esteem and confidence.

*Realizing the accomplishments of dedicated practice.

*The value of managing time for practice.

Edward has a comprehensive understanding of music theory and guitar technique. He is readily able to explain his lessons in terms even the most elementary student can understand. He's very approachable and easy to talk to. Most importantly, he is exceptionally patient! Edward has always been reliable and prepared to teach. I have learned a lot from him over the past year and continue to make steady progress in developing my own skills in reading music and playing guitar.

Biography

At 8 years old, I started out with a love for drums and so began my rhythmic development. I was influenced by my older Sister who casually played guitar and sang with her friends. Sometimes she would recruit me for some needed vocal harmonies. I picked up the guitar and began to explore sounds and learn chords. My Parents couldn't really afford music lessons for me so I learned everything by ear. In High School my music career really began to develop. My friends needed a bass player to start their band so I bought a bass and together we started learning to play our favorite rock music. I was the lead singer. I started writing lyrics and learning about song construction. By about age 23 I had been in several different rock bands. My most notable venture was with a band called the Dan Reed Network. We played a lot of clubs in the Portland, Vancouver area. We did some studio recording. But I decided that if I wanted to be a professional musician, it would be in my best interest to go to college and earn a degree as a soloist. Choosing to go to college remains one of the best life decisions I've ever made. I have found a way to make a living doing what I love.
